Call 911 in all emergencies. An emergency is an immediate threat to life and/or property that requires an immediate response.

When reporting an emergency:

  • Stay on the line with the dispatcher;
  • Provide the address, location and a description of the emergency;
  • Provide the phone number at your location;
  • Provide a thorough description of the incident to assure appropriate resources are dispatched.

Dial 911 from a campus building phone. Your call will be connected to UW-Madison Police dispatch.  If you dial 911 from a non-campus phone, your call will first be routed to a dispatch center other than UW-Madison Police. State that you are calling from UW-Madison campus.

Reporting Incidents

Environment, Health & Safety must be contacted for follow-up after incidents involving biological, chemical or radioactive substances, or any other physical hazards.
