Radiation Safety Training Available Online!

The training curriculum listed below is now at Learn@UW. You will need to self-register for each course you wish to take at Learn@UW. Instructions for registering for classes can be found in the following document: Self-registration Instructions (PDF).

Radiation Safety Training Curriculum Radiation Safety 101: Radiation Safety For Radiation Workers - Part I

This course is required (consisting of a combination of online, Part I, and in-person, Part II, portions) in order to work with radioactive materials at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Complete both parts of this course to become an Authorized User of radioactive material or a radiation worker, even if you have attended training at another institution. This portion of “RSRW” is in an online format, which includes a 55 minute video and a verification quiz. Self-register for the course at Learn@UWSelf-registration Instructions (PDF).

Radiation Safety 101: Radiation Safety For Radiation Workers - Part II

This portion of “RSRW” is an in-person training held at the Radiation Safety Office. Access to register for Part II is granted upon completion of Part I. Self-register for the course at Learn@UW; Self-registration Instructions (PDF).

Radiation Safety 102: Radiation Safety Refresher Training

This on-line course is intended for personnel who have been previously certified to work with radioactive material (Radiation Worker) on UW-Madison campus. The purpose of the training (12 minute video) is to refresh and remind radioactive materials users of safe work practices and regulatory compliance. Radiation Safety 105: Radiation Safety for Irradiator Users

Animal caretakers and users of radiation-producing equipment. This on-line course emphasizes the general principles of Radiation Safety. Principle Investigators/Authorized Users will provide additional in-service training. 

Additional training will be provided by the Radiation Safety Office to those who need to use closed beam irradiators or gauges. Please contact Radiation Safety for details. Self-register for the course at Learn@UW; Self-registration Instructions (PDF).

Laser Safety Training (Powerpoint)

This is a basic laser safety training designed to give general understanding of fundamentals of lasers operation, potential hazards associated with lasers, and ways to control the hazards. Self-register for the course at Learn@UW; Self-registration Instructions (PDF).
